What to Wear for Newborn Sessions

I hope wondering what to wear isn’t holding you back from booking a session! Even though you just gave over your body for the last 9 months of your life growing a HUMAN, does not mean you can’t feel amazing during your session! Good news, newborn sessions are the easiest to coordinate outfits for; here are some of my tips:

1. Outfits should be simple. Remember with all of my sessions, I have a wardrobe consultation :) The focus is not on all the textures and patterns like family sessions, but the focus is on your sweet little babe.

2. Wear neutrals. Oatmeal, cream, and ivory are my go-to for keeping it simple and light. Whyyyy? Neutrals will not reflect color onto baby’s already reddish skin tones and reflect light onto everyone’s faces. Note: Cool tones, like gray, do not look well with my warm shooting and editing style.

3. Wear comfortable clothes. A flowy dress, yes! Maternity jeans, yes! Don’t forget about my client closet that has beautiful options for you (and baby). Think comfy, but YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST FEELING AMAZING!!!

4. Avoid clothes that you have to keep adjusting. We want to spend time cuddling rather than adjusting bra straps or cleavage. A note on cleavage… if you want nursing photos, a v-neck dress or shirt is best for access ;)

5. Keep baby warm. Did you know most newborn studios are set to 82 degrees? That is why babies can sleep naked or with little outfits. Unless you are going to heat your house for session day (I do recommend turning up the heat a little), a simple sleeper or chunky knit sweater would keep baby warm and comfortable.
