How to Prep Your Partner for a Session

by St Paul Family Photographer

You have probably envisioned your printed photos already… everyone smiling and having a good time, but then you remember… your partner can be a stinker when it comes to photos! Let me give you a few tips and ideas how to have an easy going session that will help your partner feel comfortable and involved.

FIRST. Let your partner know how important these photos are for you. You have invested time and money into this session even before your session, but more importantly they are memories you and your family will have forever. How often do you have photos together as a whole family where one isn’t holding a phone in selfie mode or your father in-law cut off your heads when he took a photo LAST Memorial Day.

SECOND. Remind your partner that these photos capture the foundation you two have built for your family. Everything you two have built will come out in these photos. The amazing, perfectly-imperfect family that has great and hard times together, but you will see what you value and love the most.

THIRD. If you have kids at your session, those kids are mine for the hour! So no need to worry about how they are behaving or messing around. It’s your time to be the fun parent- let loose and play! I will redirect and change things up when needed. It’s your time to just be present.

FOURTH. I am not looking for perfection. My least favorite word is “CHEEEESSSE.” I promise I will never make you guys say that or stare into my camera for more than like 7 photos!

Just come and have fun please!

PS The B family from St Paul, MN was an absolute DELIGHT to work with!!! We met at a park in Hugo, MN. Mom and Dad followed the kids’ leads and we just went with it. If you are looking for a St Paul family photographer, please contact me, I am dying to tell your story!!!!!
